When older pensioner Umberto Domenico Ferrari returns out of a demonstration calling for a hike in pensions to his boarding house, his landlady requires her 15,000-lire rent and his dog is going to be flipped out onto the street. Unable to find the amount with time, Umberto fakes illness to get delivered to a hospital, even giving the landlady maid for temporary safe keeping his cherished pet.
