1930s Algeria Younes is nine when he is placed in the care of his uncle in Oran. He is renamed Jonas and grows up with the Rio Salado youths. Emilie is a member of the group, and she is adored by all. Jonas and Emilie have a wonderful love story, but it is soon upended by the country's issues.
