Mikami, a middle-aged ex-yakuza who has spent most of his life in prison for murder, gets out of jail after 13 years. He applies for a TV show and meets a young TV director named Tsunoda. He wants to find his long-lost mother, from whom he was taken away as a child. In the meantime, he tries hard to find a good job and fit in with society. His quick temper, stubbornness, and strong beliefs make it hard for him to get along with Tsunoda and others who want to help him.
