Successful surgeon Tomas matches a young photographer called Tereza, leaves Prague for an operation, also brings her back with him. Tereza is surprised to find out that Tomas has already been having an affair with all an bohemian Sabina, nevertheless all of three flee into Switzerland, whenever the Soviet invasion does occur. Sabina begins an affair, Tom continues womanizing, also Tereza, disgusted, returns to Czechoslovakia. Tomas decides to chase after her.
