In this film version of the Offenbach opera, a young poet called Hoffman broods within his romances. To begin with , his affair with the Olympia is shattered when he realizes that she's really a mechanical woman. He believes that a prostitute loves him, only to find out she had been hired to pretend her affections by the dastardly Dapertutto. Last, a magic spell claims the life of his lover.
