In the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, Ana, a sensitive seven-year-old girl in a gigantic Spanish hamlet is traumatized after a traveling projectionist displays a print of James Whale's 1931"Frankenstein" for town. The youngster is disturbed by the scenes where the villagers murders the tiny girl and later kill the creature himself. She thinks when she informs her that the creature isn't dead, but is as a soul inhabiting a neighboring barn, her older sibling and questions her sister about the profundities of life and death. Ana crosses from reality to a fantasy world of her when a priest out of Franco army, a Loyalist soldier, hides out in the barn.
