France, 1893. Joseph Bouvier tries to kill himself and shoot the woman he loves because she won't marry him. When he was let out of the dirty asylum where he was kept, bullets were still in his head. For years, he wandered the country roads, raped and killed many teenagers. The judge Rousseau catches him, but to further his own goals, he tries to keep Bouvier from being declared insane.
