After she is orphaned, Mary-ann goes in with her grand parents. Desperately alone, she sets out to befriend a nearby deathly ill boy, even despite the disapproval of the mum. Mary ann's devotion pays off, however, and throughout a string of secret trips she gradually uncovers some seriously in the house.
