Albert and David Maysles made a movie called GREY GARDENS about the estate of Edith and Little Edie Beale, who were relatives of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy and lived in shockingly poor conditions at their home. The Maysles were first brought to the Beales by Lee Radziwill and Peter Beard, who were making a movie about Radziwill's childhood. They first met them when the two were making the movie. Reels of that first meeting were put away for 45 years. This movie finds the lost footage. Our journey back to "that summer" in 1972 is anchored in Beard's memories and artistic vision. We are drawn into the seductive dream world and collage of radically unconventional creative personalities who are practicing the art of living in the face of oppressive forces like class expectations and prejudice.
