Sakuragi Hanamichi is a junior high punk who is used to getting into fights and being rejected by girls, but when he starts high school, he meets his ideal girl, Haruko Akagi. To win her love, he will go to any length, including joining the school basketball team, which is trying to conquer the nation and is led by Haruko's brother. The issue is that Sakuragi has never played basketball before, and a freshman star has stolen both the spotlight and Haruko's devotion from him.
