At the start of Red Snow is a story about a Gwich'in soldier from the Canadian Arctic who gets caught in an ambush in Afghanistan. The memories of his Inuit cousin, Asana, come back to him when he is captured and interrogated by the Taliban Commander. As they flee across dangerous landscapes and through a blizzard, he becomes closer to a Pashtun family and they become their only hope of surviving.
