Sakura Nishi is a young soldier nurse during the Sino-Japanese war in 1939. She helps Dr. Okabe do many amputations. In the congested wards, she comforts numerous troops, including one who has lost both arms and can't return home. She falls for Dr. Okabe and follows him to the front, despite his morphine addiction.
