This Ken Loach film tells the story of a person committed to his loved ones and his religion. Proud, though poor, Bob wants his little girl to possess a delightful (and costly) new apparel for her First Communion. His stubbornness and decision get him into trouble as he turns in his own despair to raise the money. This horrible flaw leads him to risk everything he loves and appreciates, his beloved family, indeed his immortal soul and salvation, in blind pursuit of that objective.
