Pinky, a light-skinned black lady, returns to the South to live with her grandmother after graduating from nursing school in the North. Pinky informs her granny that she has "passed" as white at her Northern school. In addition, Pinky has fallen in love with Dr. Thomas Adams, a young white physician who knows nothing about her black origin.
