Pit violinist Claudin hopelessly loves rising operatic soprano Christine Dubois (as do baritone Anatole and police inspector Raoul) and covertly aids her livelihood. However, Claudin loses his job and his touch, murders that a rascally music writer also contains his face etched with acid. Soon, mysterious offenses plague the Paris Opera House, blamed to a mythical"ghost".
