The plot centers on Sunset Shimmer, who discovers (through the use of her powers) that her companions' memories of her have been suddenly obliterated, resulting in amnesia. Determined to put things right, she'll want Princess Twilight's assistance from Equestria to ascertain the cause of her friends' memory loss.
