Phaen is a music-obsessed suburban teen. He never misses an opportunity to flaunt his vocal prowess during his village's religious fairs. He meets Sadao at one of the fairs and falls in love with her. On their wedding day, Phaen presents Sadao with a transistor radio, which the new family adores and which also inspires Phaen to fantasize about becoming a renowned singer.
