Mary Stuart, who was named Queen of Scotland when she was only six days old, is Scotland's last Roman Catholic ruler. At the age of 23, she is imprisoned by her cousin Elizabeth Tudor, the English Queen and her arch-enemy. Nineteen years later, Mary's life will be cut short on the scaffold, removing the last threat to Elizabeth's throne. The two Queens' contrasting personalities provide a dramatic counterpoint to history.
