Hammer gives a ride to Christina, an hitchhiker on a country road, who has escaped from the nearby lunatic asylum one evening. They are waylaid by thugs and force his car. When Hammer returns to semiconsciousness, he hears Christina being tortured before she dies. Hammer, possibly for vengeance as well as hoping that"something big" is behind it all, decides to pursue the situation.
