Samantha Hughes, an adolescent from Kentucky, never met her father, who died in Vietnam. Samantha lives with her uncle Emmett, a Vietnam veteran. Emmett hangs out with Tom, Earl, and Pete, three other Vietnam vets who, like Emmett, have issues relating to their wartime experiences. Samantha is fascinated with discovering her father.
