Subsequent to the Second World War, a northern cannery combine negotiates for purchasing a tract of uncultivated Georgia farmland. The significant portion of the land has been optioned by her draft dodging husband, Henry and is possessed by JulieAnn Warren. Now the combine must obtain two smaller plots - one possessed by Henry's cousin Rad McDowell, a combat veteran with family and a wife. The other from Reeve Scott, a black man whose mother had been Julie's childhood Mammy. But Rad nor Reeve is interested in attempting to sell and they form a unparalleled enterprise that is white and black to increase their land. Even though infuriated by the turn of events,'' Henry remains determined to push the land deal that is major. So if Reeve's mother Rose expires, Henry attempts to persuade his wife to charge Reeve with illegal ownership of his property, convinced that the bigoted Judge Purcell will rule contrary to a Negro.
