Karl, a computer technician, is also known as the "Address Book Killer," as he acquires his victims' names from stolen address books. Terry and her son Josh visit the store to compare software prices, and a salesperson uses Terry's contact book to demonstrate a handheld scanner. Karl obtains the file, and while traveling to Terry's house that night during a torrential downpour, his car drives off the road and flips over in a cemetery. While Karl is receiving a CAT scan at the hospital, a bolt of lightning strikes the structure, transforming his soul into electrical energy. Karl continues his murdering spree through the usage of the electrical grid and computer networks.
