Under constant attack by monstrous creatures called Angels which try to eradicate humankind, U.N. Special Agency NERV introduces two new EVA pilots to help shield the city of Tokyo-3: the mysterious Makinami Mari Illustrous and the intense Asuka Langley Shikinami. Meanwhile, Gendo Ikari and also SEELE proceed with a project which involves both Shinji and Rei. The movie has been retitled"Evangelion: 2.22" because of its DVD/Blu-ray release.
