Chuck Lorre's sitcom Cybill ran on CBS from 2 January 1995 to 7 July 1998. The show follows the lives of Cybill Sheridan, played by Cybill Shepherd, a twice-divorced single mother of two in her forties who has never received her big break in show business. Alicia Witt and Dedee Pfeiffer co-starred as Sheridan's daughters, while Alan Rosenberg and Tom Wopat portrayed their respective fathers. Christine Baranski portrayed Cybill's hard-drinking companion Maryann. Shepherd, Lorre, Howard Gould, Jay Daniel, Marcy Carsey, and Tom Werner served as the initial executive producers of the sitcom, which was produced by Carsey-Werner Productions and YBYL Productions. The critically acclaimed television series Cybill was nominated for twelve Emmy Awards and won the 1996 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series–Musical or Comedy. Shepherd was awarded a third Golden Globe for her portrayal, while Baranski received an Emmy, a SAG Award, and an American Comedy Award.
