In 1932, a cop is killed and Frank Wiecek sentenced to life. Eleven years later, a newspaper ad by Frank's mum leads Chicago reporter P.J. O'Neal to look in the instance. For quite a while, O'Neal continues to trust Frank guilty. However, when he starts to alter his thoughts, he meets increased resistance from authorities reluctant to be proved wrong.
