A town--at which everyone seems to be called Johnson--stands in the way of the railroad. As a way to grab their territory, robber baron Hedley Lemar pushes his henchmen to create life in the town excruciating. After the sheriff is killed, the town demands a new sheriff so Hedley convinces him to send the very first black sheriff from the west to the town.
