The first episode of the American drama series Beauty and the Beast aired on CBS in 1987. Ron Koslow's updated version of the fairy tale is about two things: the relationship between Vincent, a mythical, noble man-beast, and Catherine, a smart Assistant District Attorney in New York; and a secret Utopian community of social outcasts who live in a subterranean sanctuary. Vincent becomes Catherine's guardian because he can feel what she's feeling.
