American Revolution 2 begins with images showing political protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention, as well as the Chicago Police Department and National Guard's violent response. The filmmakers accompany members of the Chicago branch of the Black Panther Party as they seek common ground with a range of white activist groups in order to investigate the lack of an African American presence at the protests. Panther Bobby Lee and members of the Young Patriots, a community of white Appalachian activists residing in Chicago's Uptown district, stage a protest against police brutality in one scenario. The seemingly different groups discover common social and political goals that transcend racial divides — police violence, poverty, unemployment, and bad living circumstances. The film's lovely but unattainable ideal is the possibility of a cross-racial and interethnic political movement.
