William Thatcher, a peasant, is sent to apprentice with a Knight called Hector as being a boy. Urged by his own father to"change his Stars", he assumes Sir Hector's place at a championship when Hector dies in the middle of this. He wins. With the apprentices, he supposes that and also trains the title of Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein.
